Govt plans for ‘quantum leap’ in aged care services

MOH moves to double the outreach of home care services, triple day social and rehabilitative care places by 2020

The Government is moving urgently to expand aged care services to prepare for a spike in Singapore’s aged population, said Health Minister Gan Kim Yong today.

By 2020, the Ministry of Health (MOH) plans to double the outreach of home-based healthcare services, from the current 4,000, and increase the outreach of home-based social care to up to 7,500, from the current 2,000.

In addition, the ministry wants to triple day social and rehabilitative care places to about 6,200 as well as boost manpower and resources in Senior Activity Centres so they can serve up to 48,000 vulnerable seniors.
